Studio Maternity Photography in Bristol

Maternity sessions take place in my studio in Portishead near Bristol, welcoming clients from across Bristol and the surrounding areas.

Pregnancy is a powerful, transformative chapter and it deserves to be documented with care. My maternity sessions are calm, confidence-led and personal, designed to help you feel strong, elegant and completely yourself. Through flowing dresses, thoughtful lighting and gentle guidance, I create images that celebrate both the woman you are now and the life you are growing.

Before the busy days of welcoming your baby, this time is just for you.

My private home studio in Portishead offers a quiet, relaxed space where you can slow down, feel comfortable and be well looked after during your maternity session.

The studio is designed specifically for maternity photography, with a small, carefully chosen collection of flowing dresses and fabrics that move beautifully and feel comfortable to wear. Each session is one to one and unhurried, with calm guidance throughout so you can relax and enjoy the experience.

You will be offered refreshments during your session, and everything is paced around how you are feeling on the day. My approach is gentle and supportive, with considered lighting, flattering angles and polished editing that enhances each image while keeping you looking like yourself.

Maternity sessions are usually photographed between 30 and 36 weeks, when your bump is beautifully defined and you are still comfortable moving. If you are around this stage, get in touch and I will help you plan the timing for your session.

Maternity sessions are typically photographed between 30–36 weeks, when your bump is beautifully defined and you’re still comfortable moving. You’re very welcome to book earlier in your pregnancy — many clients secure their session after the 12-week scan — and we’ll simply schedule the shoot for the ideal time as your due date approaches.

Maternity Photography FAQs

FAQ

When should I book my maternity photoshoot?

Most clients book their maternity photoshoot around the second trimester to secure a date. Sessions are usually photographed between 30 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, when your bump is beautifully defined but you are still comfortable.

Do you provide maternity dresses for the photoshoot?

Yes. I have a studio wardrobe with a selection of maternity dresses, fabrics and styling pieces designed specifically for maternity photography. You are welcome to use these during your session, bring your own outfits, or combine both.

Where does the maternity photoshoot take place?

Maternity sessions take place in my private studio in Portishead near Bristol. The studio environment allows lighting, fabrics and styling to be carefully arranged to create elegant maternity portraits.

How long does a maternity photoshoot take?

Most maternity photography sessions last around two to three hours. This allows time for outfit changes, different lighting setups and relaxed pacing so the experience feels calm and enjoyable.

Will my maternity photos be edited?

Yes. Your selected maternity photographs are carefully edited to refine tones and lighting while keeping your natural appearance. My editing style focuses on timeless, artistic maternity portraits rather than heavy retouching.

What if my baby arrives earlier than expected?
If your baby arrives earlier than planned, don’t worry. We can adjust the session date if needed. Many clients book their maternity photoshoot in Bristol earlier in pregnancy so we have flexibility around timing.

Do I need to bring anything to my maternity photoshoot?
You do not need to bring anything unless you would like to include personal items. Some clients bring ultrasound scans, baby shoes or sentimental pieces, but many simply use the studio wardrobe and fabrics available during the maternity session.

Can I have maternity photos on my own as well as with my partner?
Yes. Most maternity photoshoots include a mixture of individual portraits and images with your partner or family members. This allows you to create a varied set of photographs while keeping the experience relaxed and natural.

Do you photograph maternity sessions outdoors as well?
Most maternity photography takes place in my Portishead studio near Bristol where lighting can be carefully controlled. However, outdoor maternity sessions around Bristol can also be arranged if you prefer a natural setting.

When will I see my maternity photographs?
Around a week after your maternity photoshoot you will be invited back to the studio for your viewing appointment. Your fully edited images are presented on a large screen so you can enjoy them properly and choose your favourites.

What should I avoid wearing for a maternity photoshoot?
Simple clothing usually photographs best. Avoid busy patterns, large logos or anything very tight around the bump unless that is the look you prefer. Soft fabrics, fitted dresses and flowing materials tend to create the most flattering maternity portraits.

Can siblings be included in the maternity photoshoot?
Yes. Many clients choose to include older children for part of the maternity session. We usually begin with family portraits and then move on to individual maternity photographs so the experience stays relaxed for everyone.

How far in advance should I book a maternity photoshoot?
It’s best to book your maternity photography session a few months in advance, particularly if you would like a specific date. This ensures we can plan your photoshoot for the ideal stage of pregnancy between 30 and 36 weeks.

"I had my maternity photoshoot in Bristol at 39 weeks pregnant. I am so, so happy I did this. The whole day was so much fun. I felt completely at ease and was made to feel so special and beautiful. Katie guided me through different poses and I was able to wear so many of the gorgeous outfits provided. I smiled and laughed the whole way through. I was completely overwhelmed when I saw the final photographs and still can't believe that it's me. I'm so happy to be able to treasure these precious memories forever. Thank you so much xx"
