In-the-Box Family Photoshoot in Bristol
In-the-Box Family Photography in Bristol – a playful alternative to traditional portraits
I love In the Box family photoshoots. They’re one of my favourite ways to photograph families because they’re playful, relaxed and full of genuine connection.
If you’re new to the concept, the session takes place inside a hand-built white box, large enough to hold up to three people at a time. Families squeeze in together, which naturally creates close, funny and spontaneous moments that work beautifully on camera.
You’re very welcome to bring personal props if you’d like. A musical instrument, favourite toy, something linked to a hobby, or even your dog can add an extra layer of personality. Pets are always welcome at my Bristol photography studio.

For Family In the Box sessions, I allow around one hour so we have plenty of time to keep things relaxed and fun. You can expect a gallery of approximately 30 carefully edited images to choose from.
From that gallery, I professionally curate the nine images that work best together visually and emotionally, creating the cohesive grid design you see in my examples. I then design a mock-up so you can see exactly how your finished piece will look.
If you’d prefer a different combination, that’s absolutely fine. Your final artwork should feel right for you. The standard finish is a classic 16x16 framed piece in either black or white, with the option to upgrade to a larger 24x24 frame if you’d like something more impactful.
I’ll guide you on what works best compositionally, but you’re fully involved in the final selection so the finished artwork is something you genuinely love.
If you’d like to book a Family In the Box photoshoot, get in touch. It’s a fun, original way to create something meaningful and completely unique to your family.

If you love the connection and personality of these images, you might also enjoy my relaxed family photography sessions, where we capture natural moments both in the studio and outdoors.

In-the-Box Photography FAQs
What is an In-the-Box photoshoot?
An In-the-Box session takes place inside a hand-built white box in my Portishead studio. Individual images are captured and then professionally combined into a nine-image grid, creating one cohesive framed piece of artwork.
How many people can fit in the box?
Up to three people can fit comfortably at one time. Larger families simply rotate in and out, and the final grid is designed to include everyone.
How long does the session last?
Sessions last around one hour. This gives us plenty of time to keep things relaxed and capture a good variety of expressions and interactions.
What should we wear?
Simple, coordinated outfits work best. Neutral colours or complementary tones help keep the focus on expression and connection rather than clothing. I’m happy to guide you beforehand.
Can we bring props?
Yes. Small, meaningful props such as musical instruments, favourite toys or hobby-related items can add personality to the final piece.
Can pets be included?
Yes, pets are welcome in the studio. If you’d like your dog included in your In-the-Box artwork, just let me know in advance so we can plan it.
How many images will we receive?
You’ll receive a gallery of approximately 30 edited images. From these, I professionally curate the nine that work best together to create your final grid design.
Can we choose different images for the grid?
Yes. I’ll guide you on what works best visually, but you’re fully involved in the final selection so the finished piece feels right for your family.
What size is the finished artwork?
The standard finished piece is a 16x16 framed print in black or white. There is also the option to upgrade to a larger 24x24 frame for more impact.
Is this suitable for young children?
Yes. In-the-Box sessions work beautifully for children because they can move, play and interact naturally within the space.
Where do In-the-Box sessions take place?
All sessions take place at my Portishead photography studio, just outside Bristol.
